The adventures in Sri Lanka start with:
“Daddy, I found a biting slug between my toes. I took it off and it’s bleeding now!” –
our 8 year old shows us the tiny bit of blood oozing from his foot.
Just then I remember about hotel staff mentioning, during check-in, to look out for leeches. The lush green grass by the banks of the Mahaweli River, on which our hotel, the Cinnamon Citadel Kandy, is sited, however, was too much of a draw. After the long and scenic train journey from Columbo and the slow taxi ride from the traffic-filled Kandy it had skipped my mind almost immediate as the calm of the hotel overcame us and the kids ran off, barefooted, to explore.
I try not to panic! (Mainly not the scare the children.)…
We picked the exotic Sri Lanka as our fir long-haul adventure with 3 kids and met with lots of adventure, big and small. We explore Kandy, the former capital of Sri Lanka, head further into the mountain of the Sri Lankan highlands on one of the most scenic train rides in the world and go on safari in Yala National Park with an amazing guide from Ayu in the wild.
